Gulfport / Longbeach 2013-02-14

The camera has both through the lens and rotating live screen. This old pier was far above eye level, but I was able to get the shot holding the camera overhead and composed it on the screen.

Nobody gets a pic like this on purpose… including me. But I'll take it just the same.

I keep getting surprised by the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS "backup" camera. I need to start using it more.

Scratch an itch.

Look at the color and clarity. Some backup!

Here I'm able to compose from ground level using the rotating live screen. Much better picture than one taken at eye level.

This beach goes on for miles and miles and is totally accessible to the public. Alabama could take lessons.

Wish I'd taken one at 24mm focal length, to give you an idea of how far out they were. This one was taken at 45mm.

This and the next taken at 150mm.

I just can't resist a pretty face.

This (and the next one) may be one of the coolest water bird pics I've take as far as the water is concerned.

This water is as it came out of the camera. Nothing Photoshopped here. (I wouldn't know how.)

Such stark contrast and this camera handles it pretty well.

This is a what appears to be a stainless steel and cable fence. I set the camera on the surface a took this. Really like the results.

Kids' playground. The area around it is so padded with foam that if a kid fell off he might get hurt from bouncing around.

I planned for that moving trolley to be at the right spot for this pic. Uh-huh.

Speaking of reflections…

I think this is a snowy egret. It's fishing in some very shallow water.

This guy was hiding by some rocks and was a little leery of me.

I really like the light on this bird.
