Pelicans-Mobile Bay

I've come to appreciate these seemingly ludicrous creatures as I observe and photograph them. They are comical on the ground, elegant in the air and brilliant when diving for fish. They all but disappeared due to the use of pesticides including DDT. They are still highly susceptible to human carelessness but thankfully have made a remarkable comeback due to the efforts of conscientious conservationists. It would be a shame if these magnificent birds were ever again threatened with extinction.
