Dauphin Island 2011-08-11 Birds

Wasn't a great day for photos, not much sunshine and only a couple blue herons at the pond.
Nevertheless, got a few pics worth sharing. Hope you enjoy.
Camera: Nikon D3100.

  • So I have these beautiful photos of an egret in flight I took with a 55-300mm Nikkor telephoto lens.
They are obviously not of a size that will display well individually, so what to do…?
How 'bout a collage that illustrates the aerobatic grace of these magnificent creatures. I think it works. Do you?

  • Brown pelicans don't have the same graceful lines as an egret, but are magnificent in flight.
They are one of the slowest flying birds in creation but you should see them dive.
I think this format works for these pics too. Whatcha' think?

  • Dragonflies are always flitting around the pond like helicopters in a dogfight.
Most of the ones I've seen are blue/green. This little beauty sparkling in the sunlight caught my eye.
No, it didn't get caught in the web. I got a little too close and it flew away.

  • It looked like hundreds of pelicans were looking for breakfast this morning.
These five appear to be flying in formation.

Unfortunately, after cropping it turns out to be 5.5 feet X 5.5 inches in its original resolution of 300ppi.
