Postern: The connecting tunnel through the glacis which is the cleared ground that slopes upward toward the fort and screened the walls from enemy fire.

Sallyport: The main entrance of the fort.

The Ditch: A dry moat surrounding the fort, intended to prevent the enemy from reaching the walls. The ditch could be swept with crossfire from the fort's bastions.

You will see lots of water running down the walls. It appears to be causing lots of damage.

Bastion: the projecting corners of the fort are called bastions.

Example of the intricate brickwork. I can't imagine the skill and work it took to build these arches and barrel ceilings. I just noticed that the bricks in the arch appear to be new. Lot's of patchwork here.

I'm not sure what the towers are used for. Probably built after the Civil War… ya think?

Those are some ugly blue doors. I'm thinking about writing to someone about them. They are out of place and distracting.
